PAT’S THOUGHTS:
Max’s Take:
This is an interesting game to me. On one side you have Boston College, a team I feel is grossly underrated that has shown an affinity for putting up points and beating up on teams. On the other you have the hang-around guys of Purdue. They’re 0-3 but they’ve lost those three games by a combined 8 points. Six and a half points seems reasonable if not a little high for this ACC/B1G showdown so I wanted to take a closer look. After some reading, there are solid arguments that this will be a close game Purdue at +6.5 is worth a really hard look. However, in honor of my two best friends passing the bar exam this week, I decided to play lawyer with these arguments. I’ll let you be the judge, jury, and executioner.
Argument 1: Purdue hangs in. Many are saying that this team deserves better than an 0-3 record. They’ve been so close and they’ve looked good. They should be able to give BC a run for their money, especially at home.
Argument 2: Purdue’s stout defense will give Boston College trouble. After all, they’ve clamped down on EMU’s 26th ranked (S&P) offense and Missouri’s 10th ranked offense. Surely they can have a similar performance against BC’s 17th ranked offense.
Argument 3: Boston College hasn’t been tested against an offense like Purdue’s. Purdue has the nation’s 25th best rushing attack and started to find some success through the air last week. They should be able to put up points and keep this game within a touchdown.
Closing remarks: Purdue hasn’t been able to get it together so far and this is the best team they’ve faced. Boston College has blown out two teams and was two special teams mistakes away from blowing out a third. This is Steve’s year. He finally has a well-rounded team and is on a mission to prove that this team belongs in the ACC conversation. Add in the morale boost from cracking the top 25 and having an extra-long week to rest and I think that they make a statement in Indiana on Saturday. |
